Scotland -- Click this link, DONATE NOW , to help us fund our trip to Scotland! October 1, 1932, Wrigley Field, the third game of the World Series. The Bambino steps up to the plate, taps his bat on it - just once. Gabby Hartnett, catching for the Cubs, spits chaw on the ground; c’mon, he says to pitcher Charlie Root, get this bum out. In the box behind Gabby sits Franklin D. Roosevelt, soon to be elected President of the United States. Legend has it the Babe looks over the pitcher’s head and then, slowly, raises his right arm and points to the center field bleachers. Talk about confidence! The pitch, the swing. Home run to center field! The crowd screams like crazy!
The Minnesota Police Pipe Band has a goal: Scotland and the 2010 World Pipe Band Championships. Improving the quality of our performance is a cornerstone of our band, and so we are challenging ourselves to a test against the best of the best. A test that can come only from this competition. Why did the Babe take the risk and point to center field? Maybe because he knew he could hit that home run. Minnesota Police Pipe Band isn’t going to Scotland to watch the rest of the piping world go by. We've pointed to Glasgow Green because we have the confidence that we can do it. Like the Babe, we're "calling" our shot. General Eisenhower rubs his forehead and orders the invasion of Europe to go forward. Julius Caesar crosses the Rubicon. Minnesota Police Pipe Band steps on the path to competition in Scotland in 2010. Seize the challenge and go for the goal or get cable.Scotland 2010. We stand at the line, the pipe major's foot sets the beat. All eyes on him. He gives the call. A roll. Silence. A second roll starts as drones strike in like thunder. It ends with a razor sharp E. The crowd rises to its feet. The stuff of legends. This, you're going to see!
