The Band
The Minnesota Police Pipe Band (MPPB) is a nationally recognized, top quality competition and performance pipe and drum corps. Established in 1963, we perform throughout the year at parades, concerts and competitions in the United States and Canada.
Our Affiliations
MPPB is honored to serve the law enforcement and firefighter communities statewide. We are proud partners of the Emerald Society of Minnesota, the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association and the Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial Association. We are a major presence at funeral services for police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty in the state of Minnesota.
As part of our commitment to the advancement of piping and drumming in the region, we sponsor a full instruction program for pipers and drummers, free of charge. A law enforcement affiliation is not required.
Looking Back at 2006
2006 was a spectacular year for the band. We recognize with appreciation the contribution of the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, which generously funded our grant request to help with uniform and equipment purchases.
The focus of our 2006 season was our performance at National Law Enforcement Week in Washington, D.C., where we served as the National Police Pipe Band for 2006. The highlights of the week included playing for President George W. Bush at his address to the survivors of fallen officers and leading the Emerald Society march and service at the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
We had a very successful 2006 competition season, earning trophies in each contest we entered. In two competitions, we challenged up a grade, and Pipe Major Charles Timmers and Drum Sergeant Galen Lerwick led the band to first place in both our competition grade and the next highest!
Our 2006 parade and concert season was busy, with more than 30 performances in the metro area and around the state. In addition, we provided pipers for a variety of charitable organizations, including the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life events, the Minnesota Special Olympics and the Children’s Cancer Society.
Looking Ahead to 2007 and Beyond
2007 promises to be just as exciting. We will kick-off a three-year capital campaign to fund our 2009 trip to the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. The Minnesota Police Pipe Band will continue to be a valued and highly-visible sight at parades and competitions around the country.
